Military Funeral Honors Platoon-Caisson Section

MISSION STATEMENT

The Military Funeral Honors Platoon-Caisson Section proudly honors fallen members of the military with funeral honors at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

HISTORY

In the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, the Military Funeral Honors Platoon-Caisson Section was formed in honor of Army Col. Karen Wagner's death at the Pentagon.

Col. Wagner was previously stationed at Fort Sam Houston and held a close relationship with the San Antonio area. As a result, the Fort Sill Field Artillery Half Section traveled to Fort Sam Houston to conduct her funeral honors here.

The Fort Sam Houston community then realized the need for a dedicated caisson section in the area and ARNORTH answered the call.

ADOPTION OPPORTUNITIES

Horses in the section occasionally reach retirement or are recommended to discontinue missions for various medical reasons. These horses are made available for adoption to a forever home capable of providing the necessary care for the remainder of the lives. Public announcements for horses available for adoption are listed on the ARNORTH website and social media platforms.
