Command Sergeant Major Barretto is the Command Sergeant Major of U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), headquartered at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. U.S. Army North is the Theater Army and Army Service Component Command to U.S. Northern Command, the geographic combatant command for North America. U.S. Army North’s mission is Homeland Defense, Defense Support of Civil Authorities and Theater Security Cooperation. 

Command Sergeant Major Barretto has served in a variety of leadership positions from Team Leader to Command Sergeant Major. His assignments include: 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, New York; 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Rucker, Alabama; 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; United States Forces Korea, Camp Coiner, Korea; 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky; 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Benning, Georgia; 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York; and most recently 2nd Infantry Division Republic of Korea/US Combined Division.

Command Sergeant Major Barretto deployed in support of Operation Restore Hope, Operation Uphold Democracy, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A native of Hawaii, Command Sergeant Major Barretto enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1991. Command Sergeant Major Barretto attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was trained as an Infantryman (11B).
