Colonel Jason Arriaga

Chief of Staff, United States Army North (Fifth Army)

COL Jason Arriaga holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas A&M University, an International Master of Business Administration from University of South Carolina, and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College.

COL Arriaga has served in various leadership roles, from Platoon Leader in 1-159th Aviation Regiment to Brigade Commander of 1st Combat Aviation Brigade. He commanded the 3-501st Assault Helicopter Battalion at Fort Hood, TX, from 2015 to 2017 and later commanded the 1st Infantry Division Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Riley, KS, from 2021 to 2023. His operational assignments include 18th Aviation Brigade - Corps and the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Bragg, NC, as well as the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade at Fort Hood, TX.

COL Arriaga has served as Detachment Executive Officer and Embassy Liaison in Operation Bahamas, (Turks, and Caicos) from 2001 to 2002. He commanded the Central Command Flight Detachment in Qatar during the onset of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. From 2007 to 2008, he deployed to Regional Command-South, Afghanistan, as a Company Commander in Task Force   2-82, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. He later served as Task Force Executive Officer with Task Force 2-227, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, in Regional Command-North from 2011 to 2012. COL Arriaga also commanded Task Force 3-501 and the 1st Infantry Division, Combat Aviation Brigade in Europe in support of the European Deterrence Initiative from 2016 to 2017, returning in 2022 to command the brigade again.

COL Arriaga’s broad staff experience includes assignments in the Aviation Branch, Operations Division, U.S. Army Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, KY, where he served as the Aviation Branch Executive Officer and Lieutenant Colonel Assignment Officer. Serving on the Army Staff, G-3/5/7, Aviation Branch, he was the Army Cargo and Utility Helicopter Fleet Resource Officer. He served as the Land and Sea Branch Chief, Force Application Division, Directorate of Requirements and Capabilities, J-8, Joint Staff from 2019 to 2021. He later served as Director of Aviation Operations, U.S. Army Europe and Africa, before becoming the Deputy Operations Officer.

COL Arriaga is a graduate of the U.S. Army UH-60 Maintenance Test Pilot Course, Air Assault School, and Airborne School.
