SAN ANTONIO, Texas – U. S. Army North, U. S. Northern Command’s Joint Force Land Component Command, will oversee approximately 1,250 military and civilian personnel assigned to numerous military organizations across the country during its annual disaster response training exercise, Vibrant Response, April 22 to May 13.
“While not in response to any actual or perceived natural or man-made threat, this exercise demonstrates to the American public – the people we serve – our readiness, responsiveness and resiliency to respond to a disaster,” said Lt. Gen. John R. Evans, Jr., U.S. Army North commander. “It also demonstrates to potential aggressors our resiliency in defending the homeland.”
This exercise will train and certify Joint Task Force-Civil Support, Task Force-76 and Task Force-46’s response to a simulated chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) incident.
The three subordinate U.S. Army North task forces provide command and control to Department of Defense personnel when they are deployed in support of civilian responders to manage CBRN incidents.
Vibrant Response 22 will also involve participants from the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which the task forces will support.
“While the threats to our homeland are complex, our ability to rapidly respond with our interagency partners is vital to maintaining our strategic advantage,” said Evans.
Joint Task Force-Civil Support, Task Force 76 and Task Force 46 are comprised of Sailors, Airmen, Marines, DoD civil service employees, contractors and Soldiers from the Active, Guard and Reserve components. The units are headquartered in Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia; Salt Lake City, Utah; and Lansing, Michigan, respectively.
